Wilhelm Müller

Wilhelm Müller (1794–1827) was a poet who translated modern Greek folk songs.

His Greek Songs carried enthusiasm for the Greek struggle for independence into the German public — one of the few political movements of the Restoration era that even the governments supported. Schubert’s Winterreise set his poems to music.
