hegel.net is a non-commercial academic website. I have no interest in knowing who reads these pages, and I have built the site accordingly.

There are no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no user tracking. The search runs locally in your browser. No visitor profiles are created and no data is passed on for advertising purposes.

Some technical data nevertheless arises unavoidably when you open a website. This page explains which.

1. Controller

2. Web server and log files

hegel.net is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany.

For your browser to retrieve a page, it must establish a connection with the web server. In technical terms this involves processing your IP address.

In the access logs kept for hegel.net, IP addresses are truncated at the point of logging, for example to x.y.z.0. The log files serve exclusively the technical operation of the site.

The connection to hegel.net is encrypted via HTTPS.

Technically necessary connection data is processed on the basis of my legitimate interest in the secure and reliable operation of the website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Log data is kept only for as long as is required for technical operation, troubleshooting and protection against threats.

The search on hegel.net uses the free open-source software MiniSearch.

It runs locally in your browser. Your search terms are not transmitted to hegel.net, to an external search engine or to any other search service, and are not stored by me.

4. Search engine optimisation

On some of the pages, a JavaScript from the service NytroSEO / Nytro Systems LLC is embedded.

The script serves technical search engine optimisation, in particular the optimisation of page titles, descriptions and other metadata. hegel.net does not use it for advertising, reach measurement or user tracking.

When such a page loads, your browser establishes a connection to plugin.nytsys.com. In technical terms, the IP address and the address of the page called up are transmitted.

Having examined the version of the script currently in use, this embedding sets no cookies and uses no local identifiers to recognise visitors.

The embedding takes place on the basis of my legitimate interest in making the content of this non-commercial academic website findable by search engines and technically correctly described.

The provider is Nytro Systems LLC, USA. The provider’s own privacy information applies to any further processing of data by Nytro.

5. E-mail

If you write to me by e-mail, you transmit your e-mail address and the content of your message, together with the connection data technically customary in e-mail traffic.

This information is used solely to read and answer your message and, where applicable, to deal with the matter raised in it.

Processing takes place on the basis of the purpose of your message and my legitimate interest in dealing with correspondence addressed to me (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Correspondence is kept only for as long as is required for its purpose, for any continuing correspondence or for its comprehensible documentation.

It is not used for advertising or to create user profiles.

hegel.net contains numerous links to other websites.

Merely displaying an ordinary link does not establish any connection to the linked website. Only when you click the link does your browser call up the external site. From that point on, the privacy provisions of that site apply.

This is to be distinguished from the NytroSEO script described in section 4, which is loaded on the pages concerned as soon as the page is called up.

7. What hegel.net does not do

hegel.net uses in particular:

  • no user accounts,
  • no personalised advertising,
  • no advertising networks,
  • no visitor or reach analytics,
  • no tracking pixels,
  • no user profiles,
  • no external search engine,
  • no personalised evaluation of reading behaviour.

hegel.net itself sets no cookies.

The NytroSEO embedding described in section 4 is, on the pages concerned, the only external resource loaded automatically.

8. Your rights

Insofar as personal data relating to you is processed, you have under the GDPR in particular the right of access to that data and — where the respective statutory conditions are met — the rights to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability.

Insofar as processing is based on a legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you may object to the processing on grounds relating to your particular situation.

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The supervisory authority in Portugal is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).

9. Changes

This statement will be adapted if the technical operation of hegel.net or the services used change.
