Ludwig Tieck

Ludwig Tieck (1773–1853) belonged to the Jena circle of Romantics and was one of the most influential poets of his time.

For Hegel, he stood, like Friedrich Schlegel and Novalis, for romantic irony: a standpoint that hovers above all content and allows none of it validity. The Aesthetics treats this as a limiting case of art — the point where subjectivity becomes its own object.
