Johann Noe Gogel

Johann Noe Gogel (1758–1825) was a merchant and wine trader in Frankfurt.

Hegel served as tutor in his household from 1797 to 1800 — the position that Hölderlin had procured for him. These were the years in which the Frankfurt Fragments were written and Hegel made the transition from theology to philosophy. After the death of his brother Johann David, Gogel took in the latter’s children; Hegel taught them as well.
