Jakob Friedrich Gontard
Jakob Friedrich Gontard (1764–1843) was a banker in Frankfurt am Main. Hölderlin served as a private tutor in his household.
The Gontard and Gogel families were related — it was through this connection that Hegel obtained his position in Frankfurt in 1797. Susette Gontard, Hölderlin’s Diotima, also lived in the Gontard household; the rupture that followed from this ended Hölderlin’s years in Frankfurt.
