Idealization

Stekeler (interpretive concept)

Stekeler's guiding concept for the reading: all laws of nature are formal schematizations. Our conceptual grasp is limited, because nature in its particulars does not follow the laws laid down without exception.

Origin

Galileo, the description of free fall in a vacuum — a case that no one could observe. Stekeler turns this into a guiding concept of interpretation.

Das beispiel

Planes of infinite extension do not exist in real space — only as an idealization of the surfaces of rectangular solids, on the basis of a formal "and so on."

Was daraus folgt

Whoever applies a schema to a particular case must de-schematize it. This is what Stekeler sees as Hegel's dialectic.
