Friedrich Christian Diez (1794–1876) founded Romance philology and taught in Bonn from 1825 onward.

Within Hegel’s circle, he is to be found via Immanuel Carl Diez, the Tübingen repetent whose arguments critical of Kant occupied the young Hegel. The two are not to be confused — in the correspondence they stand side by side.
