Development
Hegel (processual principle)
Development is the process by which potentiality becomes actuality. What is in itself becomes for itself. In logic: the categories develop out of one another (each is the result of the previous one). In nature: the development of life (germ → organism). In spirit: the development of consciousness (phenomenology). Hegel's development is not mechanical-linear but dialectical-contradictory: through negation, crisis, sublation. Development is not addition but qualitative reversal. The end is present in the beginning, but only as potentiality — development realizes it.
Origin
Latin evolutio (unfolding). Aristotle: kinēsis (motion) from dynamis (potentiality) to energeia (actuality). Evolutionary theory (Darwin): biological development. Hegel: development as a universal principle (logic, nature, spirit).
